Kevin Hanlon, Associate Professor of Composition Theory in Meadows School of the Arts, joined the SMU faculty in 1988. He earned a B.M. from Indiana University, an M.M. from the Eastman School of Music and a D.M.A. from The University of Texas at Austin. He has performed as a guitarist and vocalist at concerts in the U.S., Canada and Europe, and has been commissioned to compose works for choir, orchestra, wind ensemble and dance. His compositions have been performed by orchestras across the country, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony and Louisville Orchestra. He received the Koussevitzky Prize and numerous awards from Broadcast Music, Inc. and the American Society of Composers and Publishers. He also received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American Music Center and many others. His music has been recorded on the Composer Recordings, Inc. (CRI), Folkways, Louisville Orchestra and Advance labels. He retires as Professor Emeritus of Music.
